The fate of the current City of Prince Rupert flag may be but hours away, with the city's council members to receive a report tonight recommending the replacement of the flag, with options to consider for a new look that highlights the new corporate brand.
Veronika Stewart, the City's Manager of Communications, Engagement and Social Development compiled the three page report and reference materials for the Council members tonight.
The Current flag which the city has used in the past was developed in 2001 and with the city taking on an extensive rebranding project last year, the old crest and the visual look does not reflect the new brand elements adopted by the city.
With the current inventory of flags exhausted, the report explores the options for a new design towards placing an order for future local flags.
Council members have four options to consider toward a replacement tonight.
The quartet of flag designs created in house, make use of the visuals of the rebranding program that the city adopted last year.
It's not really clear where the City actually flies it's flag at the moment, the report notes of placement in a number of locations in the community.
However, the 2001 flag doesn't seem to have much prominence in the public spaces in the community listed in the report.
While it once did fly in front of city hall, that is no longer the case at the moment.
A tour around town this weekend also did not find the flag flying at Mariner's Park or the Recreation Centre.
Nor does it seem to have a place of honour in the Council Chamber, at least from a review of the most recent Council Session of mid August.
Though maybe staff could dig around and find one for tonight, just for Auld Lang Syne.
