As Fire Dangers reduce, BC Wildfire Service removes Open Burning Campfire prohibition for Prince Rupert area and Northwest BC

The last week of rain and cool conditions have done much to assist those on the front lines of the provincial wildfire fight in the northwest and the with the arrival of precipitation comes a relaxation on the prohibition for Campfires that has been in place for much of July and August.

The BC Wildfire Service announced today that as of Noon, the prohibition has been lifted, though restrictions remain in place for Category 2 and 3 fires across the region.

More background on the current conditions for the Northwest and points east to Prince George can be reviewed here.

The smores and such will be on hold for a bit yet mind you, prospects for campfires in the Prince Rupert area may be deferred for a bit yet however, the current forecast for the days ahead is one that calls for more precipitation over the weekend.

While we have some work ahead to catch up on our archive of notes from the recent Wildfire Season, you can explore more notes from the BC Wildfire Service here.
