SD52 and Northern Health partner up to create new child care spaces in Prince Rupert

There will be expanded opportunities for child care in Prince Rupert next month, as School District 52 and Northern Health announce additional options for Before and After School Care in the community.

In an information release from the School District, the plan ahead for each of the four Elementary schools in Prince Rupert was outlined, noting that half of the 48 spaces to be created will be set aside for use of Northern Health families.

Starting May 1, 2023, 12 spaces will be opened at Pineridge Elementary and 5 spaces at Ecole Roosevelt Elementary (Westview Child Care Centre).

The plan for the coming school year is to expand to two more sites, Sunnyside at Lax Kxeen Elementary and Conrad Street Elementary.

The need for health care had previously been identified as one of the challenges that Health recruiters were facing in attracting more health professionals to Prince Rupert, the new initiative would work to address some of those concerns.
