BBC adventurers were pointed in our direction ... But the getting to us, proved to be a challenge

A British television program that takes residents of the United Kingdom to far flung reaches of the world has cast its eyes on Canada, with the first of the travels taking participants to the Northwest and Haida Gwaii.  

Though the journey to reach us is making for a bit of humorous look at just how far off the beaten path we may be.

The BBC's Race Across the World dropped five couples in Vancouver with the BC leg of the journey having them to find their way to the Northwest ... though as some viral moments on twitter are showing, they perhaps could have used a few background notes on the travel options to get here on a shoestring budget.

The British newspaper the Guardian has picked up on the travellers challenges, noting of some of the adventures that the travellers have found so far as they explore British Columbia.

The Georgia Straight also highlighted some of the realities of tourism travel in BC in 2023.

And while it's interesting to watch the fish out of water story as it evolves, it also does seem to identify some areas where British Columbia may want to work on as we invite the world to explore.

The clear lack of travel options into the Northwest is one area that should be of concern for Tourism officials, along with some of the mis-information from down south as to what is available to travel the region.

The publicity is certainly good for enticing global travellers, though some follow up with a bit more of some helpful guidance towards how to get here might be something to look into. 

That so our future visitors don't seem as lost as some of the Race Across the World visitors appear to be.

Those that made it as far as Haida Gwaii, still have quite the adventure ahead, the tour wraps up in St. John's Newfoundland.
