Declining deficit, Spending and supports chart path for BC Budget 2022

British Columbia's Finance Minister Selina Robinson delivered the government's financial plan for 2022 on Tuesday,  a document that noted the challenges of the last few years through COVID and Climate issues as well as marking an era of spending on a range of programs that as the Minister put it " puts people first" ...

“We know that we are at our best when we work together and look out for each other. The scale of the problems we have seen recently – from the ongoing pandemic to the devastating effects of climate-related disasters – require government leadership and collective action. We know that the strength of our economy is intertwined with the well-being of people, communities and the climate.”

Among some of the elements ahead for British Columbians that work towards that goal of putting people first, spending to deliver on Full Day Child Care, Improved health Care, Partnerships with First Nations, measures to address homelessness and housing and support for survivors of sexual assault.

The Environment will see a focus on clean energy and transportation, resilient infrastructure and measures towards climate related disaster preparation and supports.

The Budget will also work towards the government's legislation consistent with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

When it comes to the fiscal review of how the Government  will move forward, much of the budget was focused on the improving financial picture and reduction of deficit that will be used to introduce the range of programs outlined.

Capital Spending is set to rise, while improving situations related to the Provincial COVID response will give the province options towards increasing expenditures with the bounds of increased revenues.
