Good News for Prince Rupert which returns to a 0 case count of COVID for this week, but there are two significant hot zones for case counts in Northern British Columbia |
Some relieving numbers for Prince Rupert from the BC CDC this week, with their weekly review of COVID case reports in Local Health areas noting of 0 cases reported for the week of August 8 to14th in the Prince Rupert region.
However the data released today does provide some notes on other areas of the Northwest facing some challenges.
Among those is Kitimat which this week has reported 15 cases of the coronavirus up from two last week, followed by Terrace with 6 an increase of three from the last report.
Other results are much the same as the report one week ago.
The Nechako region is the current hot zone for Northern Health in the Northwest. with 44 cases reported, which is almost double that of last week, also marking a spike is Prince George, with the largest population centre reporting 59 cases which is also a significant increase.
Last week Prince Rupert had recorded its first two cases of the coronavirus since June.
Today's COVID update from the province noted of 36 new cases for Northern Health, with 230 cases of COVID considered active. There are currently 3 cases requiring hospitalization, with 4 in critical care.
One report of concern for the Northern Region was issued today with Northern Health declaring a COVID-19 outbreak among contracted workers on the Site C Hydroelectric dam project in the Northeast part of the province. That outbreak declaration will remain in place for at least 28 days.
Province wide, today's report added 553 new cases of COVID-19 to the total from across British Columbia, making for 5,580 active cases.
Towards the ongoing vaccination program in the province, the BC Government updated its data today, advising that since December 2020, the Province has administered 7,265,222 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
