Local Health Authority data shows another bump upwards in COVID reports for Northern Health; along with jump in vaccination appointment bookings in BC

The latest Local Health Data from the BC CDC as of August 21

The latest release of data from the BC CDC provides a glimpse into some of the concerns over rising COVID case counts for the Northern Health Authority, with three areas of the Northwest still with elevated case counts for the week ending August 21st.

For Prince Rupert the news is still rather positive, with only one case noted for the week in question, that is a jump of one from last week when no new cases were recorded.

Around the region the tallies for the last seven days are as follows, with the Nechako area once again the high point of reported cases.

Nechako 41
Kitimat 16
Terrace 7
Nisga'a region 4
Bella Coola Valley 4
Haida Gwaii 2
Burns Lake 1
Upper Skeena 1

Later volumes of cases are being recorded in points east with Prince George at 62, Peace River North 44 and Peace River South at 32 among the locations with high case reports.

Across the Northern Health Region, there were 45 new cases of COVID reported today, making for 322 Active Cases across the Health Authority. When it comes to hospitalizations the number listed is 7 with 7 patients. in Critical Care.

The North has recorded 8,448 cases since the coronavirus arrived in January of 2020, so far, 7,984 have recovered with 160 confirmed deaths recorded.

Today's province wide data shows 698 new cases of COVID-19, with 139 British Columbians in hospital, 75  in Intensive Care.

Some interesting themes are coming out of the weeks news on the COVID notes, with the ongoing rise of the new case counts and the recently reintroduced measures on mask wearing, required proof of vaccination  and a range of School provisions, the pace of vaccination is on a bit of a surge.

Today, the BC government noted that as of Monday, 12,904 people under the age of 40 have registered to receive their COVID-19 vaccine, and 11,301 people under 40 have booked appointments.

That compares to 4,161 registrations and 5,077 appointment bookings for people under 40 during the same period last week, which is a pace that is nearly triple that of seven days ago.

More on that jump in the registrations can be reviewed here.
