City of Prince Rupert gets some heat over timing of Pool Closure

The Annual maintenance closure of August for the Earl Mah
Aquatic centre is providing for some debate on the City of
Prince Rupert Social media account this month

It's been a scheduled maintenance plan for years, with the City of Prince Rupert making the decision to close the Earl May Aquatic centre in August, that in preparation for heavy usage during the remainder of the year.

And that annual Closure as it has been in the past, was the theme for the City's notice of earlier this month which outlined the maintenance and training program for staff that will take place during August.

The decision however, once again is not necessarily a popular one with many local residents, who each year offer up their thoughts on the timing and how it's a strange thing to close a pool in what is normally the hottest month of the year in the community.

Among some of the themes explored by residents who have weighed in to date, the preference for a September closing following the summer vacation period, concerns over how in a community with few activities for families in the summer that the August closure makes for an inconvenience and some curiosity as to why the City didn't take advantage of period of COVID to take care of any maintenance issues related to the facility.

You can follow the debate from the City of Prince Rupert Facebook page.
