Libraries and Helipads the themes North Coast Regional District will bring to UBCM resolutions forums

As we outlined on the blog yesterday, organizers of this years UBCM convention are putting the final touches on their September program for the delegations from communities across British Columbia.

The convention which brings together municipal and provincial politicians as well as a few from the Federal scene will be taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre from September 23rd to 27th.

And while there is a lot of social exchanges, workshops and tours of facilities making for the UBCM convention, the delegations from across the province also bring their Resolutions for consideration to the five day conference.

Yesterday, we took note of the list of resolutions that has been released by UBCM, with no resolution suggestions from Prince Rupert City Council included as part of the final document.

There are however fifteen resolutions up for consideration from communities along the Highway 16 corridor from Burns Lake to Terrace, including a pair from North Coast Regional District.

Helipad Construction

The first a call for UBCM to lobby the Province of British Columbia to legislate that all current and future level three and above trauma centres being constructed in rural BC receive funding to construct and operate an on site helipad.

Library Funding

The second resolution is directed towards library funding with North Coast Regional District set to urge the Province of BC to increase annual operating grants for municipal libraries, regional library systems and public library associations to 2008/2009 grant funding levels plus an inflation adjustment, based on the BC Consumer Price Index, for the years subsequent to 2008/2009 to present

The will also call on the UBCM to urge the Province of BC to index future annual operating grants for BC libraries at the rate of the BC Consumer Price Index.

In their documentation, UBCM notes that the North Coast resolution has similar themes as a number of other resolutions submitted from other communities for this years convention.

Updates on the preparations for this years UBCM convention can be found from their website and twitter feed.
