North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice made a stop on the east side of Prince Rupert on Saturday afternoon, helping to celebrate some provincial recognition for Gunther and Nancy Golinia, providing the long serving Wildlife advocates in Prince Rupert with their BC Community Achievement Award.
The popular couple have been tending to the needs of wildlife for over three decades and for the most part fund the operations out of their own pocket, with the community often helping out by way of labour on jobs needed around the 11th Avenue East location, raising funds for the site, or delivering supplies to them.
The were nominated by the region's Terrace based Conservation Officer, with Gareth Scrivner tipping the BC Community Achievement Foundation to their long period of service to the community.
As we outlined on the blog back in April, the couple along with twenty four other recipients were recognized for the award by the Foundation, which hosted a gala event for all in May.
You can learn more about their work at the Wildlife Shelter here.
