Mayor Brain introduces Rosa Miller as the new Corporate Administrator for the City of Prince Rupert

There is no official notification yet posted to the City of Prince Rupert website, but the introductions have been made publicly by Mayor Lee Brain, who made note of a new face in the office of Corporate Administrator, with Mr. Brain welcoming Ms. Rosa Miller to her post on Monday evening.

The position that is part of the senior level of city staff was filled after a lengthy period of vacancy, that following the departure of Rory Mandryk who held the position since October of 2013 when he replaced former Administrator Robert Grodecki.

Mr. Mandryk's five years at the Corporate Administrator's office had brought a bit of stability to the position after it had been in the spotlight a few times following the departure of long time City Manager Gord Howie in 2013.

Mr. Mandryk's absence from City Hall was never officially announced by the city (a practice that is rather common in other communities) and was first noticed in January, when he was no longer tending to his duties at the public council sessions.

The position was posted and the search for a replacement got underway in late March, with the City posting the job to the province wide CivicInfoBC jobs board.

During the interim period between January and this month, the duties during the Council sessions have been handled by the Deputy Corporate Administrator Antonio Vera.

The new Corporate Administrator is a well known personality in Prince Rupert, with Ms. Miller having worked with the Credit Union in the past, as well as with duties at the Prince Rupert Chamber of Commerce and through her efforts with both Rotary and Minor Hockey in the community.

As part of her time with the Chamber, she travelled with the Mayor to Alaska, as part of a delegation to discuss issues related to the Alaska Marine Highway.

Ms Miler has also been fairly active on a number of city council related initiatives in recent years, in May of 2018 she was appointed to the City's Small Business Advisory Council, where she was to serve a two year term of office.

Most recently, she was a member of the Mayor's Select Blue Ribbon Panel that explored the issue of compensation for the Mayor's Office and City Council, their final report outlined a call for pay increases for both Mayor Brain and the six council members, as well as to confirm the status of Mr. Brain as a full time Mayor.

Council adopted the majority of that panels findings in April.

The Corporate Administrator's position in the past has included membership on a number of Boards, including that of CityWest and the Prince Rupert Airport Authority,  on Monday evening Mayor Brain did not outline if those duties were to be included in the work now to be taken on by Ms. Miller.
