Mayor's latest travels take him to Victoria for talks with provincial officials

It was back to the road this week for Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain who has been in Victoria over the last few days to go over some of the city's concerns with provincial officials and politicians.

In a Facebook post from earlier this week, the Mayor outlined some of his itinerary for his visit to the provincial capital, which coincided with the Opening of the new session of the Legislature on Tuesday.

Among those that the Mayor says he met with were MLA Jennifer Rice, Premier Horgan and a number of his cabinet ministers.

The topics for discussion included funding for the final phase of the city's proposed water works project, which will include a water treatment facility and submarine lines, also part of his check list of topics were affordable housing partnerships, priority infrastructure investments, social and economic investments and the pursuit of new revenue opportunities for the community like the Watson Island Logistics Park development.

The Mayor outlined his goal from the discussions as one that will ease the burden on local residents and small businesses and provide for the ability to work on a number of infrastructure issues in the community.

His takeaway from the meetings of earlier this week was one of confidence that the Province supports the city's efforts and that some significant changes may be seen in Prince Rupert this year,

This weeks trip would appear to be the second out of town journey of the year on civic business for Mr. Brain. Earlier in January, with things becoming a little heated over the city's Boil Water Notice,  the Mayor provided an update through his Facebook portal on the city's water issues from an out of town location, using a video stream from a hotel room to deliver some of his talking points at the time.

So far, the city has not made it a practice to include a travel and expense log for local politicians and senior staff members as part of their information flow. That's an element of information sharing that some other communities include as part of their mandate towards providing full accounts of the travel of elected officials and senior staff members
