A weekend fire training program in Terrace, which included the participation of fire fighters from the District of Port Edward was on the daytimer for Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach and after taking in the session the NDP MP has once again renewed his interest in seeking more information on the protocols of response for industrial incidents.

In a Social Media post following the weekend training session, Mr. Bachrach outlined a range of areas where he will be seeking more information on, particularly when it comes to the transit of dangerous goods along northwest rail lines, as well as to how local authorities are tasked to respond any incidents.

Among his themes, lack of transparency on railway emergency response plans,  the burden that is placed on the volunteer fire departments of the region , Transport Canada standards and what expectations that communities should have when it comes to response to incidents by industry.

Mr Bachrach serves on the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, their last meeting which took place on June 17 was focused on Railway Safety.

You can review the work of that committee from the House of Commons Committee archive page.
