The first step towards more affordable housing in the District of Port Edward is now underway, with the District posting a call for an Expression of Interest to provide for development of a two acre ocean view site on Sunset Drive in the community.
The desire to develop affordable housing comes out of the recent strategic plan that was created by the District Council, the Council members noting in the information package of their vision for the growth and development of Port Edward and to enhance the vibrancy of the community.
The affordable housing element was first identified as part of the District's Housing Needs Assessment which was launched in 2019 and completed in 2020.
As for the proposed area of development the District package notes that the site of the former elementary school and how it is adjacent to a number of the community recreation facilities.
The deadline for expressions of interest towards the proposed housing plans is Friday, July 16th at 4 PM with CAO Danielle Myles Wilson the contact person at the District towards the initiative.
