SD52 sets February 27th meeting and Open House for new Middle School plans

The latest plans for replacement of the Prince Rupert Middle School will
be revealed later this month as Board officials reveal three potential sites

Parents, Guardians, students and teachers in Prince Rupert will soon get an update on the progress towards a new Middle School for the community, with SD52 set to host an Open House on Thursday February 27th.

The session which will take place in the current home of the Middle School on Ninth Avenue West will bring the public together to provide input  on potential sites for the long sought replacement of the aging structure.

The meeting is part of the Board's Seismic Mitigation project.

At the February 27th Open House, School District officials will be providing the reveal for three potential sites for a replacement school,  City Council officials will get a preview of those sites at the February 24th Council session.

The desire for a replacement school has spanned over a decade now, the need for a new facility noted during the Board transition that introduced the Middle School program when SD52 merged the then two high schools of PRSS and Charles Hays in 2011.

Since that time it has made for political rhetoric on the provincial scene and seen frequent delays in providing for any kind of momentum towards the deliver of a new school.

The renewed momentum for a new Middle School comes in the midst of significant funding initiatives for school construction in British Columbia by the NDP government.
