The federal government has opened up the wallet a bit, set deliver over 3.5 million dollars for the Northwest Regional Airport in Terrace and just over 150,000 for the Masset Municipal Airport on Haida Gwaii.
The funding announcement was made yesterday in Nanaimo, with Parliamentary Secretary Terry Beech making the announcement as he toured airport facilities in that Vancouver Island city.
For the Northwest Regional airport the money will mean the rehabilitation of Runway 15-33 which will see $3,651,200 put towards a pavement rehabilitation project.
The Runway work is part of the Terrace-Kitimat airport's Master plan concept, a program of development that has already resulted in a number of major changes to the transportation system of the Northwest.
The Masset airport will receive $157,241 to purchase a friction tester, upgrade air side lighting and install wildlife fencing.
The money comes from Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program and was one of four announcements on the day with other money directed towards the Tofino-Long Beach airport and Castlegar's West Kootenay Regional Airport.
There was no money allocated for the Prince Rupert airport as part of the most recent funding from Transport Canada.
