UFAWU members to press their employment concerns for Government panel today

The North Coast Convention centre
is hosting the BC Government's
Finance Committee today

When the Provincial Finance Committee holds its session in Prince Rupert today, one group that will be there to share some thoughts will be a number of members of UFAWU-Unifor who will be making their concerns over employment issues on the North Coast for the committee.

In a notice to the membership posted to the UFAWU-Unifor Facebook page, the union which represents Fish processing workers in the city called for the membership to gather at the North Coast Convention Centre (in the Chances building) this afternoon from 1:50 to 2:20  to show solidarity in the union's call for an Adjacency policy when it comes to the North Coast Fishery.

Noting how the number of hours of work that local workers received this year were dismal, the union is looking for a large turnout at the Committee session to show support and to deliver their message to the travelling delegation of politicians.

That message of adjacency and other issues related to the North Coast fishery were part of a presentation that UFAWU-Unifor made to a Federal committee over the summer, you can review their efforts in Ottawa from our blog item of June7th.

Some background on today's Standing Committee session at the North Coast Convention centre can be found here. The Committee session starts at 2 PM and continues through the afternoon into the evening, it is scheduled to come to an end at 6 PM.
