The British Columbia government has caught up to some of the local stakeholders when it comes to transportation for education on the North Coast, with the BC Government issuing its own media release yesterday noting the delivery of $117,597 in funding to the region.
The news on a solution to some of the school transportation issues of the North Coast first made its way to parents a few weeks ago, thanks to an announcement from the Port Edward District Council and the Metlakatla Governing Council, which outlined some background on the funding agreement.
That was followed by a School District 52 update of mid September, that addressed some of the transportation concerns of parent within the Prince Rupert city limits.
Yesterday's announcement provided some background to the provinces Student Transportation Fund which was released in August prior to the 2016-17 school year.
On Monday, the Prince Rupert District Teachers Union made note of transportation issues in the region as part of their presentation to the BC Finance Committee Budget consultation session in Prince Rupert, calling attention to some of the concerns that parents have expressed on the topic.
