Tonight's Prince Rupert City Council session will find the city's council members taking care of the final steps towards installing Electoral Officers to their positions.
During this evening's Regular session, City council will approve the appointment of Joe Zelwietro to the position of Chief Electoral Office, Mr. Zelwietro is the Chief Librarian at the Prince Rupert Library.
Robin Beattie, the City of Prince Rupert's Administration Assistant, will also be named to the position of Deputy Chief Electoral Officer.
The announcement comes after a Special Council session held last week to move the process forward and makes for the final bit of business required to finally deliver some momentum towards a School District 52 by-election, with a timeline for that event perhaps to be outlined at tonight's meeting as well.
SD52 has been patiently waiting for the City to respond to its request for the by-election, which has been required since the resignation of Judy Carlick-Pearson from her post back in November.
As we outlined on the blog in January, the School District by-election process must be handled through the City of Prince Rupert and SD52 officials have been watching with interest as the city began the process of putting recruitment for the positions out to tender in December.
That change from past practice, provided for an additional step that has added to the amount of time before the School District can fill the open positions.
With the School District now involved in community consultations regarding proposed budget cuts facing the District, they no doubt are hoping to have a full Board on hand soon, so as to respond to parent questions and contributions and later this Spring to make the decisions required to address their funding targets.
