MLA's Week, October 5 - 8, 2015

North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice had opportunity to raise the profile of a local situation in the Legislature, as she made use of the Monday afternoon Question Period to raise a number of concerns with the Honourable Stephanie Cadieux, the Minister of Children and Family Development.

For the Minister, Ms. Rice highlighted some key passages from the findings of the recent Coroner's Inquest into the deaths of Angie and Robert Robinson and asked a number of questions stemming from those recommendations.

The questions on that file, would mark one of her two contributions to the events in the Legislature of the week, with Ms. Rice also sharing her thoughts on the Provincial Government's Auditor General for Local Government office, making note of a number of local issues as part of her commentary of Monday afternoon.

As we do at the end of each week of the Legislature session, we outline some of the main notes of interest from the North Coast MLA's work week.

Ms Rice was formally listed twice in the archive of participants for the seven sessions of the Legislature in the House, or those related to House Committee work listed for the week of October 6-9.

Her first contribution to the Legislature week in Victoria involved her observations related to the province's plans to continue on with the Auditor General for Local Government position, a project which Ms. Rice doesn't believe needs to continue.

With a Coroner's Inquest into the deaths of a Prince Rupert mother and her son wrapping up in Prince Rupert in the week previous (see our item here) the North Coast MLA and her fellow New Democrat from the Northwest, Doug Donaldson made use of the Monday Question Period, as both raised issues related to the inquest in the Legislature.

The North Coast MLA is also a member of the Committee on Children and Youth, however that Committee did not meet this week, Ms. Rice noted on her Facebook Page, that the Liberal Government had cancelled the originally planned session, alleging in her Facebook Post that it was in order to protect the Minister of Family and Children Services from further questioning on her Ministry.

The Thursday afternoon session brought another work week to an end for the province's MLA's.  The Members will now have plenty of time to digest their Thanksgiving meals, despite being back at work for but two weeks, they are not scheduled to return to the Legislature until Tuesday, October 20th.
