School District officials outlined the final count when it comes to enrolment for the 2015-16 school year, with SD52 Human Resources Director Kathy Gomez delivering a report that highlights an increase of 100 students from last year, providing for a total enrolment of 2,160 students at area schools, as of September 30th, 2015 .
Noted as part of the update the numbers from the Kindergarten class of 2015-16, which has grown by thirteen students from this time last year, with 161 students beginning their journey through the region's public education system.

Starting with some background from the Ministry of Education related to the latest curriculum implementation outlined, a plan which will include additional non-instruction time for teachers as they study the new curriculum.
The introduction of that process will result in changes to the school calendar to accommodate the additional non instructional days. The revisions to the calendar will be outlined at a future meeting of the Board of Education.
School District officials also received a report on the School District response to a new program
offered at NWCC called the Academy, with the District hearing how the current offerings through the School District cover much of the same options as those offered by the college based project.
As well Board members received a presentation on the launch of the Hockey Academy program at Prince Rupert Middle School, with a number of parents offering their support for the program and reviewing how it has been received by their children.
