List of active fires continues to grow across Northwest British Columbia

From Terrace to Vanderhoof, from the Yukon to Caribou, the Northwest is ablaze as the last week has see a significant jump in the number of fires to be tackled by the BC Wildfire Service.

The vast majority of the attention heading into this weekend is the Bulkley-Nechako region, Lakes District and on to Vanderhoof.

At least ten Wildfires of Note, the highest ranking are listed on the BC Wildfire Service Map and even large volume of fires listed as Being out control.

Among the Fires of Note:

Nilkitana
Peacock Creek
Parrot Lookout
Tintagel
Nithi Mountain
Whitefish Lake
Tsar Creek
Greer Creek
Finger Lake
Pelican Lake

The latest status of those and all of the fires reported so far can be explored here.

The most recent Alert issued came out of the Terrace are at 5 PM with an Evacuation Alert issued for Cedarvale/Woodcock owing to a wildfire burning  in the region. 

Yesterday an Evacuation alert was issued for the Sik-E-Dakh-Glen Vowell Wildfire

As we head into the weekend only the Prince George Fire Centre District at 157 fires has more than the Northwest which at 102 is well ahead of all other regions of the province.

 

As Friday moved forward, the only thing spreading faster than the out of control flames was the volume of rumours associated with the Northwest Fires.

Something which brought a number of messages relayed today by civic officials and regional politicians to try to reduce some of the concern and apprehension that was coursing through Social media.

We noted of the information provided in Prince Rupert earlier today as rumours of an internet outage that could come from the fires in the Bulkley-Nechako region, made a rush of social media and with that a number of calls to officials to learn more.

In the region currently at the heart of all of the concern, Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen was busy keeping his constituents informed and reassured that all that can be done to take on the fires is being done.

Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach, who lives in Smithers also was using his social media stream to try to reduce anxieties in the constituency today.

Assisting in some of the evacuations have been members of the BC Conservation Officer Service.
