There's a welcome rumble taking place in the downtown area this week, one that will gain the appreciation of many in the community as work begins on the rubble of the Belmont Hotel site.
Storey's Excavating began the work on he Third West site this week, marking the final chapter for the once legendary beverage house that was consumed by fire on May 1st, 2022.
Work is now underway to clear the site of the old Belmont Hotel on Third West |
The visual state of the location since that fire has made for much discussion around the city and in Council Chambers, with Mayor Pond speaking to the topic in mid June, observing that the demolition work was to come shortly.
The Mayor no doubt relieved that the Belmont will not make for the fodder for social media commentary now that progress has been seen on the clean up of the site.
At the same Council session, Mr. Pond also noted that there was hope that the Boulevard of Boarded windows along Third and the downtown core may also soon see some attention and this week some progress there as well.
That as CBC Daybreak North Host Carolina de Ryk celebrated the return of daylight to the Daybreak offices on Third West.
The CBC Window replacement makes for a good start, but All West Glass has more than a few blocks to go before the streetscape of Third West sees the plywood look begin to fade from memory.
More notes on some of the Council discussion themes can be reviewed here.
