SD52 Board meeting tonight to reveal strategic plan, School calendar options, motion for BCSTA on Indigenous representation

The Board of Education meets tonight for their March meeting with a fairly busy agenda ahead with a range of items of note for those that may be planning to take in the SD52 meeting.

As has been the case for much of the year, the opening portion of the evening will be turned over for a presentation, this time from James Zlatanov, who will outline the scope of a new Physical Geography Course with the District curriculum.

From there a number of Correspondences will be reviewed as well as to hear from Superintendent Andrew Samoil, who has a six items to share on the evening including a look at the proposed School Calendars for the years 2022-23,  2023-24 and 2024-25 all feature both one week and two week spring breaks for consideration.

As well the Superintendent will provide a look at the SD52 Strategic plan, which outlines the District's vision, Values, Learning elements and priorities. The full preview of tonight's presentation is available for examination from the Agenda package from pages 28 --40.

Also of interest from this evening's session is a look at the motion towards Indigenous Representation on School District Boards, that the Prince Rupert School District plans to introduce to the British Columbia School Trustees Association. 

That motion has come out of some extensive discussions of the past, some of which took place as part of previous School District meetings. The motion will be part of the BCSTA Annual General Meetings from April 21-24.

Prince Rupert trustees will also discuss a BCSTA Climate Change Work Group Survey.

While the City of Prince Rupert and other municipalities in the Northwest have returned to in person sessions, there's no word yet from SD52 when it comes to their public gatherings, which at the moment appear to still be a Zoom gathering mode.
