First opportunity for Public Comment or Observations on 2022 Prince Rupert Budget comes tonight

Residents of Prince Rupert will have a chance to provide their first comments on the 2022 City of Prince Rupert Budget Process tonight, with Corinne Bomben, the City's Chief Financial Officer hosting the comment period as part of tonight's Committee of the Whole Session at 7PM.

Ms. Bomben will provide a review of her Budget Notes of the March 14th session before Council will then ask for comment from anyone in the public gallery on the evening.

As we outlined earlier this month, this years Budget planning could bring the need for tax payers to dig a little deeper this year, should Council approve a recommendation for a 3.63 per cent tax increase for 2022.

The March 14th presentation also provided a look at some of the ways that the City's Financial office is using the Legacy Inc. financial mechanism to provide for some items of note, including the leasing of the MacCarthy GM location on Portage Avenue for use to relocate the City's Public Works Department.

Among a number of items in the presentation of the 14th, the first review of the Financial plan for 2022 also noted of plans to increase staff for the Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue Department, address RCMP salary requirements as well as to maintain the new 24 hour restroom in the downtown core at the Eat Street location on Third Avenue West and Seventh Street.

Those who may want to speak to the budget tonight can gain more background on the city's plans from the City of Prince Rupert website and Rupert Talks Portal

The Budget Presentation can be reviewed here.

Residents can also take on the role of CFO for a bit, making use of the City's Budget simulator to put their own budget making skills to the test.

You can follow our review of budget themes here.

More items of note related to this evening's Prince Rupert Council session can be explored here.
