Nisga'a Nation notes of potential COVID-19 exposure from Hoobiyee celebrations last weekend

The Nisga'a Valley Health Authority has issued a COVID-19 exposure notice for those who may have attended Hoobiyee 2022 in Gitwinksihlkw last weekend, informing participants of an exposure which took place on March 11th and 12th.

As part of the advisory, they note of the communicable disease plans that were in place at the Ts'oohl Ts'ap Memorial Centre for the event and how if followed correctly would have been very effective in preventing transmission.

As well they observe as to the procedures now in place through Northern Health, which is no longer requiring all contacts to self-isolate after a COVID-19 exposure.

Towards the exposure from last weekend, contacts are asked to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and STAY HOME if you feel unwell or develop symptoms. Please stay home as long as you have symptoms. If you do not have symptoms, you do not need to isolate.

When it comes to potential COVID exposure, the Nisga'a Valley Health Authority has provided a checklist to assess your condition should you believe you may have contracted COVID.

Key symptoms of COVID-19 include:

Cough
Loss of taste and smell
Shortness of breath
Fever/chills
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

If you or your family members have symptoms, please call your Primary Care Provider or the Northern Health Virtual Clinic for an assessment and testing: 1-844-645-7811
