Those in need of shelter from the cold and snow of our recent burst of winter have a familiar destination to head to for the Holiday period, with the Old Fishermen's Hall back in service for the local Homeless shelter.
The Fraser Street building now serving as a temporary facility once again, that owing to some work that was required on the Crane's Crossing shelter facility at Five Corners.
The Fisherman's Hall building started its time as a community's shelter from the elements in 2020, prior to the move to the Five Corners location.
The new housing option of Crane's Crossing which is managed by North Coast Transition Society was purchased By BC Housing in May of 2020, once renovations are complete it will provide for not only the city's Homeless centre facility but also will offer supportive housing services once the extensive renovations are complete.
A required variance permit for the structure was moved forward by City Council earlier this spring.
NCTS hopes to have the homeless shelter back in operation at Crane's Crossing in the first weeks of January.
The local agency has seen the generosity of the community shine through this month, with a number of local groups, organizations, businesses and community members providing for a range of donations towards their holiday season work.
