After reading a report from the British publication the Guardian, Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach has issued a call for a review of the RCMP Planning and actions related to enforcement during the January impasse over the routing of a gas pipeline across Wet'suwet'en territory.
The Guardian article which you can review here, outlines a range of items of approach that the Guardian alleges the RCMP had planned when it came to enforcement action related to the blockade in the Bulkley Valley area near Houston.
The publication's notes are said to be culled from documents accessed by the Guardian reporters and alleges that some aggressive and violent methods had been put forward.
The RCMP to this point have not issued a statement related to the Guardian article, or the themes and level of enforcement options that are presented as part of the reporters work.
Not waiting for any official word from the national police force in response to the article, the Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP outlined his concerns through his Facebook page this morning, expressing his concern over the alleged encouragement of "violence against people who are our friends and neighbours"
This morning I am calling on the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission to conduct an independent review of the RCMP’s planning and actions related to incidents on January 7, 2019, to determine whether they were consistent with Canadian law enforcement standards.
In his notes of today, Mr. Bachrach did not outline what steps will be required to move forward on his request, or what kind of a timeline that such a process will need to deliver any findings.
