Community Gambling Funding to lend assistance to Prince Rupert Marine Rescue Society

The Province of British Columbia is distributing some of the revenues taken from Community Gambling and that will translate into $33,800 in funding for the Prince Rupert Marine Rescue Society.

The funding was announced earlier this month by Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, who made note of the work done by the non profit groups around the province.

 “We support programs that make our communities safer and empower people to protect and preserve British Columbia’s natural environment. We are pleased to fund not-for-profit organizations in this important work, including strengthening volunteer fire departments and enhancing community conservation efforts to protect our environment.”

Other communities in the Northwest to benefit from the funding included:

Oona River -- Oona River Resources Association   $22,000
Queen Charlotte City -- Laskeek Bay Conservation Society  $13,000
Smithers -- Bulkley Valley Amateur Radio Society  $5,900
Smithers -- Bulkley Valley Search and Rescue Society  $26,100
Terrace --  Skeena Volunteer Ski Patrol Society   $12,000

Last Friday, North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice made note of the Prince Rupert announcement as well as those in Oona River and Laskeek Bay.
