If the Weather Gods cooperate, residents of Seventh Avenue East may finally see some paving take place next week |
For those awaiting some progress on a number of road related issues, particularly on the east side of the city's McBride Street divide; the news seems positive following some inquiries Monday night by Councillor Barry Cunningham.
During the final minutes of Monday's twenty three minute exercise in public engagement, Mr. Cunningham asked about three current trouble spots. With the Councillor speaking to what has apparently become a mogul run on Eight Avenue East, the still uncompleted status of the 7th Avenue East road project and the need to fill in an pave over the gaping hole on Eleventh East.
Fielding the inquiries from the Councillor was Corinne Bomben, the City's Chief Financial Officer who knocked off the list one by one.
Ms. Bomben noted for council that the issues on 8th would see some preliminary work done soon with a larger approach to come next year.
The Seventh East paving job is schedule for next week, weather permitting and as far as she knows, the work on 11th Avenue East will be taken care of shortly.
The Q and A period comes at the twenty minute mark of the Monday Session.
We made note of some of the road woes last month, observing as to the rather slow progress towards the completion of the 7th Avenue East project, which will be an important conduit for the soon to open Elders/Seniors Residence that Metlakatla is putting the finishing touches on.
Should Mr. Cunningham wish to follow up on some other road themes for the next Council session, he may want to ask for City Manager Robert Long to provide a full report on the 2019 paving program, which as the city noted earlier this year would be a million dollar bit of infrastructure work.
Residents might find it somewhat informative to hear how the city spent that million dollars, as well as where the work took place and how many of the jobs on the to do list were completed in 2019.
For more items of note on infrastructure in the city see our archive page here.
A wider overview of Monday's Council session can be reviewed here, with a larger archive of City Council themes explored here.
