New Kid on campus as New Coast Mountain College Training unit debuts in Prince Rupert

Coast Mountain College's Newest acquisition is a Mobile Training Unit
with the latest in high tech educational facilities making its first
appearance in Prince Rupert this week

It was a most anticipated arrival at the Prince Rupert campus of Coast Mountain College on Monday morning, as the newest addition to advanced education on the North Coast arrived in the parking lot of the downtown campus.

Coast Mountain's Mobile Training Unit made its first road trip on Monday, setting up in the lower parking lot in at the Prince Rupert location, set to show off how the new training option will allow for as wide an access to the college's programs as possible.

As we noted back in September, the new 1.3 million dollar training unit came from funding through the Federal government and the CMTN foundation, the unit is part of the college's plan to expand the courses offered and to lower the bar for women, youth and Indigenous peoples to receive trades training and to build a more inclusive workforce across a number of sectors.

As part of the statement of September hailing the announcement of the funding, former Coast Mountain College CEO Ken Burt made not of the opportunity that the unit provides to expand the college's reach into the region.

“This mobile training unit is critical to ensuring that education is accessible and reaches people where they live. This is vital to bringing innovative programming to remote and Indigenous communities.”

The Mobile Unit which is a high tech training tool is 53 feet in size and can be expanded to 1,000 square feet and will deliver a range of programs such as the recently hailed Gas Process Operator program which recently trained operators for AltaGas facility in Prince Rupert.

Coast Mountain College also notes that this could provide the opportunity to take their popular Professional Cook program and many others on the road as well.

Prince Rupert is the first community to get to see the new unit, but the portability of the Training facility means that Coast Mountain College can take their programs to many communities of the Northwest, North Coast and Haida Gwaii.

As part of their planning for the future, Coast Mountain has put a significant focus on preparing students for the many trades opportunities that are becoming available in the region and the acquisition of the Mobile Training Unit will help to improve on that goal.
