Election Day for Lax Kw'alaams

Members of the community of Lax Kw'alaams are off to the polling booth today as residents both on reserve and living in Prince Rupert prepare to mark their X to determine who will serve in the Mayoralty, Band Council and Trustees positions for the next four years.

The Mayoralty race finds seven candidates seeking to take the reins of office from incumbent Mayor John Helin, who has steered the course for the community for the last four years.

The race for the 12 Councillor positions has delivered for the most candidates, with 36 participants seeking the vote of the community for the mix of on and off reserve positions to be filled today.

A somewhat smaller pool of options have stood in nomination for the five trustee positions, with 11 candidates seeking that office.

Voting takes place from two locations today, in Lax Kw'alaams the ballot boxes can be found at the Elders Lodge, while those voting in Prince Rupert can participate at the Lax Kw'alaams Business Development Building which is across from Mariner's Park, adjacent to the Prince Rupert Court House building.

For those Elders in Prince Rupert who require a ride to the Polls, an opportunity to access transportation can be found below:
