Northwest Fire Centre adds to prohibitions as weekend arrives

The Northwest Fire Centre has announced more burning prohibitions
for the Northwest for this weekend

Those heading out into the woods of the Northwest this weekend should keep in mind some new burning prohibitions that go into effect at noon hour today, as the Northwest Fire Centre seeks to reduce wildfire risk and to protect public safety.

Much of the prohibitions are in effect north of the Stewart area, with Category 2 Open Fire prohibited in Area B which takes up some of the Highway 16 corridor region.

Some background on the nature of the different categories, where the prohibitions are in effect and what you need to know about them can be found here.

To better assist the public in keeping up to date on fire situations across the province, the BC Wildfire Service has released an improved interactive map that features a number of new elements. Added to the project are new dashboards, the ability to view in layers and hyperlinks to redirect you to more information.

The definitions noted above can be viewed here.

The launch of the new map means that it has a new place on the BC Fire website and you will have to change your links, you can access the map here.

More background on the work of the BC Wildfire Service can be explored here.

Wildfire advisories can also be accessed through the BC Fire Service Information portals of twitter and Facebook
