A strong demand is making for some challenges in space allocation when it comes to the city's recreation facilities, with City Council set to hear the findings from David Geronazzo, the Director of Recreation and Community Services who has developed a new Recreation Allocation policy for Council to review and approve.
The report comes from the work of the Recreation Allocation Policy Committee which reviewed the level of demand on services and developed a policy towards which groups will have access to city recreation space.
The review included the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre facility, the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre and the variety of ball and soccer fields that are operated by the City of Prince Rupert.
Towards their findings, the Recreation Department has created a priority scale when determining who will have access to Recreation facilities and fields. The prioritization criteria included the following elements.
Prioritization of space allocation is based upon the unique needs and desires of the Community of Prince Rupert and is intended to recognize the limited space available and the growing use of that space.
Wherever possible staff will allocate with the intention of ensuring all organizations have access to the space they need to thrive. When that isn’t possible the objective of the City of Prince Rupert is to provide space to youth-based organizations in times that best suits their developmental needs.
The report can be reviewed below, the accompanying documentation to go with the Report is available from the Agenda Package for tonight's City Council Session, available here starting on Page twelve.
Council members will have the opportunity to ask questions of Mr. Geronazzo following the report and then will make their decision as to the recommendations for the new policy.
