Other notes covered in the January 15th session found Board members receiving an update on the most recent data on School completion rates.
The findings from the 2017-18 School years indicated that SD52 hosts a 62% completion rate for Aboriginal students, with an 81 percent completion rate for Non Aboriginal Students.
District officials noted that those results are comparable to those that were found in 2016-17.
The Board also heard two presentations on recent events at District Schools, with students and staff from Lax Keen Elementary School providing a glimpse into a school project which saw them make lunch boxes out of recycled materials.
Presenting to the Board were Principal Susan Kobza and students Rebecca Angus, Sophia Donaldson and Madeline Niesh.
Board Chair James Horne made note of some of the ingenuity that was used in the project.
"The Board has been supporting hands on projects with students for many years. It was exciting to see students' ingenuity in using these materials and their lack of nerves when presenting their projects for the Board."
As well, the board heard from Superintendent Irene LaPierre, who spoke towards a District Literacy Intervention Plan which was kicked off in January.
As part of the launch, Barb McBride a retired teacher from the Vancouver School Board was on a tour of local schools hosting sessions designed to help struggling readers improve their reading abilities.
The Board also voted to change the date of the February Board Meeting to February 11th, that to allow for travel requirements for the Board Chair and Secretary Treasurer.
