City Council Preview: Monday, January 14, 2019
It's back to work for Prince Rupert City Council tonight, as Mayor Lee Brain and the six members of the Council host their first Regular public meeting for 2019, the first held since December 10th of last year.
As those that live in the community know it's been an eventful few weeks since the council membership last met, with the City put under a boil water notice on December 14th an official edict which remains in effect as Council members prepare to gather tonight.
The ongoing nature of the Boil Water Order has certainly roiled the political atmosphere in the city and could deliver a fairly interested crowd to this evenings session, one which the Mayor noted in a Facebook Post earlier this month would include a technical report from city staff members related to the ongoing issues that are facing the city's drinking water supply.
That particular report is not officially listed on tonight's Agenda, a document which is rather light on the work load for the first night back for 2019.
There are only two items of note listed on the Council task list for the evening, consisting of two presentations planned from City Staff.
One an application for a grant under the business facade program; while the other will detail the plans for an application for a grant for some infrastructure work at the Recreation Centre.
City Council members will also host their first behind Closed Doors meeting for the year, with a Special Closed Session planned for 5PM, the Council membership citing one element of the Community Charter for the closed session.
(k) negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at their preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality if they were held in public.
