Those wishing to learn more about the new Safe Place program introduced by the Prince Rupert detachment of the RCMP can sit in on a presentation to City Council tonight.
As part of the petitions and delegations portion of the night for council, Constable Kayla Radford will bring council members up to date on the progress of the program, which is designed to provide for places of refuge for members of the LGBTQ community in Prince Rupert who may feel at risk.
As we noted on the blog in January, the program was launched in the city earlier this year and the Prince Rupert launch is being viewed as a form of possible blue print for future expansion across the province.
Constable Radford, who is the RCMP liaison for the program will make her presentation as the first speaker at tonight's Council session, those that can't make it to City Hall for the public session, can watch the evening's proceedings through CityWest Community Television and streamed live through the City's website.
Ms. Radford will outline how the program started, what's involved for local businesses and organizations which wish to participate as well as to how residents in the region can become involved with the project.
You can also review more information on the program from the Council Agenda for tonight, the Safe Place Program overview starts on page 8.
