British Columbia to shift "Family Day" Holiday to third week of February in 2019
As British Columbians prepare to head out for the first three day weekend of the year, they will be marking the final time that this province is out of step with much of the rest of Canada.
Earlier today, the Provincial Government announced that as of February 2019, Family Day in British Columbia will be celebrated on the third Monday of the month, marking the change on the calendar from when the holiday was first introduced to the province back in 2013.
The decision will be a welcome one for many in the province, who had observed over the last few years that this province not celebrating the day on the same timetable as the rest of North America, was creating some problems for business operators and families looking to sync their plans with relatives and friends in other parts of the country.
Premier John Horgan made note of those themes as part of today's announcement from Victoria.
“Moving Family Day is the right thing to do for businesses small and large, and is better for families who may be spread out across the country,” ... “This gives families an opportunity to schedule and spend more time with loved ones from other provinces.”
