New government in place in Lax Kw'alaams and quick to work for the New Year

Residents of Lax Kw'alaams celebrated the installation of their newly elected Council on Monday and with Mayor John Helin and the recently elected Council now officially in charge, the work of the community gets underway with a fast pace.

Today Lelu Island and Flora Bank will be the topic for discussion, with two meetings planned for community members set for this morning and afternoon.

The First takes place at Lax Kw'alaams taking place in the gym of the school from 1 to 4 PM, while an evening session is planned for the North Coast Convention Centre from 6 to 9 PM.

Further sessions will also be held for Lax Kw'alaams members in February, along with plans to update community members that are currently living in the Terrace and Vancouver area.

Lax Kw'alaams members can also take advantage of an information session related to trade training opportunities, with Kelly Sinclair hosting the two hour presentation from 7 to 9 on Wednesday January 6th at the Highliner Inn.

The new council was elected in November, signalling a shift in the political structure in the community north of Prince Rupert.  You can review the notes from the November election here.
