City Council Preview, Monday, January 11, 2016


Prince Rupert City Council starts off the year with their first public session of 2016 tonight, though as the timeline for the day shows, the first actual gathering of the collective for the new year will be a closed session at 5 PM, prior to tonight's public session at 7.

As for the regular business of the night Council, member will ease themselves into 2016 with a relatively light agenda on the night.

They will receive a presentation from the City Planner who will recap some of the Planning for Major Projects from 2015. While Council will also hear a report from the Director of Operations related to a Memorial Plaque to honour the life of Colonel Peck, the plaque to be installed at the Rotary Waterfront Park.

As well, Corinne Bomben, the city's CFO will provide the final look at the recommendations for this years Community Enhancement Grants.

Council will also consider a correspondence for support from the Crime Stoppers organization in the community.

A pair of Bylaw issues and a review of the status of the Housing committee will bring the evening to a close.

Prior to the Regular Council session, Council members will conduct a Closed Session of Council at 5 PM, where they will hold discussions related to  a topic that Council believes requires the exclusion of the public for the following reason:

the acquisition, disposition or expropriation of land or improvements, if the council considers that disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality.

The Regular  Council session starts off with the adoption of agendas and minutes.

Petitions and Delegations

Zeno Krekic, the City Planner,  will provide a an update on planning for Major Projects, reviewing some of the major notes from 2015.

Any Unfinished Business is then up next on the Agenda.

Followed by Reports and Recommendations

Report from the Director of Operations -- Related to plans for a Memorial plaque to be installed at the Rotary Waterfront Park at Kwinitsa station ( page 13 of the Agenda)

Report from the Chief Financial Officer -- A review of the recommendations for Community Enhancement Grants for 2016 ( page 15 of the agenda)

Requests follow next in the night's timeline.

Correspondence For Action

A request for a letter of support from Crime Stoppers related a Youth Anti-Gang Initiative and Crime Prevention Grant application (page 18 of the agenda)

Resolutions from Closed meetings and Resolutions from Closed Meetings

Bylaws mark the next item of the Agenda on the night.

Report from the City Planner -- Proposed Zoning Amendment to permit the use of Shipping containers in P1  and M1 zones  (page 33 of the Agenda)

Report from the Director of Operations  -- A recommendation that Council adopt a Road Closure and Removal of Highway Dedication for an area of Prince Rupert Boulevard, Albert Avenue and Parking Lot ( See page 41 of Agenda)

The evening then wraps up with Additional Items from Council members, as well as Reports, Questions and inquiries from Members of Council.

Council will hear an update from the Housing Committee providing the latest developments from their efforts.
