Infrastructure will be the topic at a February 9th Town Hall Forum hosted by MP Nathan Cullen (photo from City of PR Annual Rpt) |
Earlier this month we made note of a correspondence from the MP to the City of Prince Rupert, suggesting the concept of a shared forum on the topic.
At the time, the MP made note of his desire to work with municipalities, First Nations and Regional District's to ensure that federal funding opportunities are made available to communities across the Northwest.
Adding that his regional tour is designed to gain a better understanding of the issues in each community, so that the MP can better hold the Federal government accountable and to make sure that Northwest communities received their share of federal funds.
From the background found in a direct mailer arriving across the city this week, it would seem that the February event will be a solo act. With the NDP MP making no mention of any Civic involvement when it comes to his Town Hall event planned for February 9th from 7 to 9 PM at the Prince Rupert Library.
The choice of the Prince Rupert Public Library makes for an interesting and somewhat topical choice for a venue from the MP, considering how the Library has been in the news of late.
Last week, during the Monday evening City council session, the City of Prince Rupert reduced the Library's funding by 66 thousand dollars during their most recent discussions on Community Enhancement Grants.
During that conversation, Councillor Barry Cunningham referred to such institutions as the Library, Arts Centre and Museum as part of what he considers major projects and the infrastructure of the community.
As for the February 9th forum itself Mr. Cullen will be leading the discussion that will focus on the Liberal Government's Infrastructure funding plans. With the MP set to ask residents of the community to provide him with some thoughts on what they would like to see developed and what their infrastructure concerns are in the community.
