Transportation Minister Marc Garneau made his first trip to the North Coast on Thursday, touring a number of Transportation facilities including the Prince Rupert Coast Guard base at Seal Cove, where he took in a presentation at the  Marine Communications and Traffic Service Centre.

Mr. Garneau has been on a wide ranging tour of the west coast, having spent the bulk of Wednesday examining port facilities in Vancouver as well as Coast Guard facilities in the Lower Mainland.

While on the North Coast Thursday, he toured local port facilities and consulted with a number of First Nations leaders in the area, discussing elements of the Liberal governments plans to institute its oil tanker moratorium on the North Coast.

As we noted on the blog in November, the Oil moratorium was listed as one of many agenda items as part of the Mandate letters for a number of Federal Ministers including Mr. Garneau and Fisheries Minister Hunter Tootoo.

The Minister also met with other local officials, including Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain, who outlined through his Mayor's Facebook page that he provided the Minister with a review of his Hays 2.0 plan.

Included on the Minister's twitter feed for the day long trip to Prince Rupert was a note that he was looking forward to the scenery of the North Coast ...

And as if on cue, the weather forecast on Thursday provided for a sun filled viewing opportunity for the Ministers travels through the region.
