Two Successive large Earthquakes in Taiwan has BC officials awaiting word on potential tsunami risk

Two Very Strong earthquakes have struck Taiwan today,
what impact they may bring in the way of a Pacific wide tsunami
has yet to be determined

See update at bottom of page

Two significant seismic movements just minutes apart on Taiwan have BC Emergency response officials watching for further advisories from Tsunami experts on the potential for any tsunami activity on Coastal BC.

The Twin quakes of 7.4 and 6.5 magnitude struck at just before 5 PM Pacific coast time, generating an automatic Tsunami Information statement for Alaska, British Columbian and and the West coast of the continental USA.

After shocks continue to be registered into the day in Asia.

Shortly after that was issued, the BC Government relayed its own advisory, with the prospect of additional information to come as the situation is assessed.

You can follow those updates from their social media stream.

More notes on Seismic themes for BC can be reviewed here.

We will follow up with further notes should there be an impact on the North or Centra Coast or Haida Gwaii.

Update: No Tsunami risk expected for British Columbia, Alaska or points south

Cross posted from the North Coast Review.
