Gas Price jump most visible indicator of April 1st price increases in BC

A range of consumer goods went up as of April Fool's Day, with price increases at gas pumps, liquor stores and onboard BC Ferris among the areas where British Columbians are paying a little bit more heading towards the summer of 2024.

For many, the most notable jump comes at the gas pump, part of the increase to the Carbon Tax program though in Prince Rupert the prices are all over the map three days after the April Fool's Day increases.

Those who filled up on gas on March 31s were paying 1.69 per litre, one day later there was some price shopping to do for those looking to fill up their tanks.

The Best deal to be found today is downtown at 7-11 at 1.71 per litrewith prices increasing as you head out towards the Industrial Park Petro-Canada location.

For those who travel aboard BC Ferries, Monday brought a 3.2 percent increase in the cost of your journey. The price jump of this week will be an annual event over the next four years. BC Ferries used the occasion to note of a number fare saver options they offer.

BC Hydro users are looking at another 2 percent to be added to their bills, though those eligible will be able to claim an electricity affordable credit

A trip to the BC Liquor Store will see a two percent increase on the excise tax for alcohol, though the Federal tax will be capped at that pace for the next two years.

Some of us will have more resources to call on to pony up for the increases, Canada's Members of Parliament all gained a pay top up on Monday as well. The MP's all gaining a 4.4 salary boost, said to be on par with private sector increases.

BC politicians also got a pay bump on Monday, with the base salary for an MLA rising to 119,532 dollars.
