Haida Nation members approve of 'Rising Tides' Haida Land Title agreement

The Haida Nation made some history over the weekend, with members voting with a 95% majority to approve of a Land Titles Agreement between the Haida Nation and the Provincial Government.

In an information release from the weekend, the Council of Haida Nation noted of 500 votes being cast, with balloting taking place on Haida Gwaii, as well as in Prince Rupert and Vancouver

In late March, North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice had outlined some of the work that had gone into reaching the agreement, as well as to provide some background on what it means towards relations between BC and the Haida Nation.

As we outlined in mid March, Ms Rice had spoken to the land title initiative as it was working its way through the Legislature.

In March, Murray Rankin, the Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation  outlined the scope of the agreement through an information release.

The Draft agreement is available for review here.

More notes from the Legislature can be explored here.

Items of interest from Haida Gwaii are archived here.

Cross posted from the North Coast Review.
