See update at bottom of page

The Metlakatla First Nation is making its plans for the upcoming distribution of 100,000 dollars to each member of the First Nation that qualifies as part of the Claims Tribunal Settlement with the Federal Government.

That settlement which is related the surrender of Metlakatla lands with the arrival of the Grand Trunk Railway came to a conclusion in September of 2023.

To qualify for the distribution members had to have been on the Band list as of September 5, 2023.  Funds for minors under the age of 19 will be held in trust until they reach that age.

That announcement as to how the Metlakatla distribution plan will work was released in mid March.

This week, the First Nation has expanded on the details towards how it will evolve and what members need to do to receive their money.

Updated information from Thursday April 11

Members should follow the Metlakatla First Nation Social Media stream and website for future updates on the process ahead.
