As part of their ongoing efforts to discourage any non-resident travel plans to their community, the Lax Kw'alaams Band has announced that as of yesterday, they are no longer providing marine fuel for boaters that may arrive at their marina.

The move comes as the Coast Tsimshian continue to seek a meeting with Premier Horgan to discuss their concerns over a number of COVID-19 issues, including a desire to stop any non-essential travel to the North coast, as well as to address issues related to the recreational fishery.

As we outlined yesterday, Lax Kw'alaams and Metlakatla issued an information statement related to their concerns over non-resident essential travel.

One potential move outlined in the statement could see the members from Lax Kw'alaams erect a checkpoint near Salvus on Highway 16 in the next week or so, with Lax Kw'alaams Mayor Garry Reece also noting that further action may include plans for a blockade.
