Nisga'a Nation prepares for Special Assembly May 7 to 11

Members of the Nisga'a Nation along with delegates and special guests will all be making their way to Gingolx next week, gathering as part of the Special Assembly taking place at the Gingolx Memorial Recreation  Centre.

The Five Day Assembly opens on Monday morning and will provide for an extensive overview of the the work taking place across the many communities within the territory of the Nisga'a,  the Assembly to follow the theme of Our Stories, Our Strength: Celebrating the Resilience of our Ancestors.

Day One will feature the Opening Ceremonies and introduction of the Co chairs, as well as the Welcome Address to delegates.

Participants get down to work with the NLG Executive Officer Reports in the morning, followed by an Afternoon Question Period along with Senior Managers reports.

The Gingolx Welcome Banquet brings the opening Day to a close.

The following four days will delve deeper in to many of the elements of Nisga'a governance; included among the areas to be covered by Friday through Reports and/or Discussion periods are:

Programs and Services, 
Lands And Resources, 
Human Resources, 
Fisheries and Wildlife, 
Nisga'a Education, 
Communications and Intergovernmental Relations
Nisga'a Pacific Ventures LP
Nisga'a Employment and Skills Training
Economic Development Initiatives
Nisga'a Health Services
Nisga'a Ayuuk, Language and Culture

Of the range of items up for review,  the session on Fisheries and Wildlife could offer up some background on the approaching fishing season and any late updates on the status of the fishery for 2018, In preparation for the fishery, the Fisheries and Wildlife Department hosted a number of Consultation sessions in a number communities through the month of April.

As well the Economic Development session and that on Employment and Skills Training may help to deliver updates on projects and training opportunities that may be on the horizon for members of the Nisga'a Nation.

The session on Communications and Intergovernmental Relations may also provide some insight as to how, if at all, the relationship between the NLG and the provincial government might have changed with the arrival of an NDP government in Victoria.

Friday brings the Assembly to a close with the Closing remarks from the Chief Councillor and Presdident, along with a celebration of the retirement of Ganim Siwilyeenskw
