Fans of public broadcasting, particularly those of CBC Radio will have a chance to take in the production of one of the radio service's longest running programs this weekend as Cross Country Check Up comes to town for its Sunday broadcast.
Host Duncan McCue will be hosting his two hour program from 1 to 3 PM at the North Coast Convention Centre (Chances Gaming Centre) to ask the weekly question of local residents and those listening in from across Canada.
This week, the CBC host is asking: Is it time for Canada to transfer resource rights back to First Nations.
Cross Country Check Up features interviews with in studio guests and phone in contributions from across Canada and beyond and the Prince Rupert stop will most likely put some focus on recent resource related developments in Northwest British Columbia and the Prince Rupert area.
With a live audience in attendance in Prince Rupert, there will may also be a chance for residents of the North Coast to share their views on the topic with Mr. McCue and his listeners.
Admission to the broadcast is free.
Some of the most faithful of CBC Radio fans in the Northwest however may not be able to make it to the Convention Centre for the show, the CBC program is taking place at the same time as the Digby Island Art Show, the popular annual event is one which attracts a good crowd each year who cross the harbour to take in the range of activities that go with the Art Show, which this year is set to run from Noon to 5PM.
The timing of the twin events could find many of the CBC's Prince Rupert fans sailing right under the windows of the studio heading towards Digby, that as the program moves through its two hours of national programming.
Cross Country has set up a host page for their Prince Rupert stop here.
Those not familiar with the program can explore some the background to it from the CBC website, our political blog D'Arcy McGee also has links to the past episodes for the program of national discussion.
