City Council Preview: Monday, May 14, 2018



Prince Rupert City Council comes together tonight 
with a  rather light Agenda for their final meeting for April

Public presentations and the release of the 2017 Audited Financial Statements make for the main focus of this evening's City Council session, with an Agenda of little other business to attend to on the night.

A review of the challenges of finding employees and retaining them a local businesses will be the topic for one presentation featuring a panel of three local business members, while an update from Cow Bay Marina Manager Robin Beattie on the newest addition to the Cow Bay Marina will provide for the content for the second public presentation,.

Council will also review a pair of requests for letters of support and proclamations as part of the Correspondences segment of the evening, included in that is a correspondence from MP Nathan Cullen asking for federal intervention into the transportation issues of Northern BC.

A trio of resolutions from Closed Meetings will outline the make up of a number of Council Authorities and Boards.

Council Members will also meet in a Closed Session at 5PM:

Council has chosen to close the doors for the following criteria: 90.1 (k) negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at their preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality if they were held in public.

REGULAR SESSION OF CITY COUNCIL

Adoption of Agenda and Past minutes -- Mayor Brain will review the agenda for the evening and Council will adopt the minutes of past meetings.

Petitions and Delegations -- Kristi Farrell, Opa Sushi,  Chris Armstrong, CityWest; and Karen Sawatzky TD  Bank -- Recruitment and Retention Prince Rupert and Port Edward -- The group will pick up on a theme that Council has reviewed in recent weeks about employers and the challenges of finding employees

Cow Bay Marine Manager Robin Beattie-- Re: Cow Bay Marina Public Kayak float  --An update on the latest addition to the Cow Bay Dock.

Letter from Nathan Cullen, MP Skeena-Bulkley Valley, dated March 2018 -- Regarding Passenger Transportation across Northern British Columbia (see page 56 of the Agenda)

Resolutions from Closed Meetings makes for the next element

From April 23rd Closed Meeting, Prince Rupert Airport Authority Appointments: The City has appointed Ms. Gloria Rendell, Mr. Kelly Sawchuk and Mr. Knut Bjorndal to a two year term.

From the April 23rd Closed Meeting, Prince Rupert Small Business Advisory Council Appointment: Ms. Rosa Miller has been appointed to a two year term.

From the April 234d Closed Meeting, Prince Rupert Recreation Commission: the City has appointed six members: Ms. Joy Sundin, Ms. Sheri Pringle, Mr. Bruce Watkinson, Mr. Ralph Weick, Ms. Joyce Charlton and Ms. Anna-Marie Prohaska. The City has also appointed Councillor Wade Niesh to serve as Chair of the Recreation Commission.


Bylaws and Additional items

The evening will come to an end with Reports, Questions and Inquiries from Members of Council.

Council members can also take advantage of the period to offer up any items or concerns that they have for consideration on the night.
